help, I'm a newbie here. Just bid on Marcia Gay Harden's shoes from The Mist. It comes with a certificate of authentication, but how can I validate this? Also, any idea what their value may be in the future or how to estimate this?

item number on ebay is: 270224515640

It has documentation from Premiere Props. It seems to be an item from a recent movie as Premiere Props would sell things from. I checked premiere props did indeed sell items from the movie you can see so at http://cgi.ebay.com/2043-The-Mist-Screenus...1QQcmdZViewItem
You could check their previous auctions to verify for sure or their feedback to look for this exact item.

Premiere Props gets things directly from studios. So if it came from them thats where they got it. It is possible they could make a mistake; a back up item for screen used, prototype for screen used or what not but that is not very likely. I have bought things from Premire props that I trust to be as described.
You paid the ebay auction cost so thats the value more or less at present. In a fixed price selling not auction based where one waits with patience an item may sell for more though. Add a screen cap if you can find one of the item and that can help one sell things for more. Besides that you seem to have a unique item thats rare as all props are, consider it as such.

If you can find the original Premiere props ad on e-Bay, save the photo. Shoes can be difficult to authenticate as they are rarely shown in close-up and rarely have unique, identifiable marks such as scuffs, blood, rips etc.

Premiere Props can be trusted that the item was used in the production but may not have been worn on-screen.

Another problem with shoes in general is they are seldom given wardrobe tags like shirts and some props, and if they are labeled inside it often wears off and is near impossible to read just from the rigors of wear and tear and being worn. Just try verifying which episode a shoe was worn in from a TV series even if you knew it was worn in the show and which character that alone would be tough.
