Who are the best propdealers ?

Who are the worst ?

Best that I have dealt with dealer wise:

Reel Clothes
Prop Store of London

A lot of stuff sold is from private collectors though or auction houses.

I agree with Mr. Movie Prop regarding The Propstore of London. We've had nothing but good experiences with them and recommend them highly.

Starwares is another good source too.

I'd of course recommend The Golden Closet as well, but since I work for them you might assume I'm biased.

I'd rather not comment on disreputable dealers in an attempt to stay focused on the positive! Does any one else have some recommendations of companies that have treated you well and presented themselves professionally apart from the above listed?

The best for me so far is probably "Hollywood Vault" on eBay. I used to think it was Premiere Props, but they ave recently been inaccurate and have taken to substituting items won at auction.

Starwares has been accurate and friendly nearly every time.

The world-infamous Entertainment Movie Props a/k/a Puttieface has long earned a spot at the bottom of the heap. As near as I can tell, he would buy and sell authentic items and then every once in a while, he'd make up some fake tags and send out lookalike items. rolleyes.gif Beyond that, he was notorious for abusing his customers with foul and quite colorful language.

But within the context of "reputable" sellers, Premiere Props has been making a lot of errors lately. They call them "inventory glitches." I buy a few hundred pieces a year from them, but when an eBay auction falls short of the average price for the similar item, you suddenly get a substitute item like a stunt outfit, or an over-teched version with a "sincere" apology. dry.gif

Most recently, they didn't even pretend. I won an Owen Wilson shirt that was clearly screen worn with tags. The average auction price would be about $130 and a similar item would retail on their site for $500+ but the auction for this item ended at $17. So they just sent the rest of the items from my order and a note on the invoice that they had refunded the $17. Which they had not. mad.gif

This is the 3rd order in a row that they have not sent the items won. It is also the 5th order in 6 months. Anyone else having this problem?

Haven't bought from Premiere props in a while. They were ok for what I bought. Like most studio reseller dealers on ebay they know very little about what they sell. Its a Wrap it seems you have to email them directly rather than use the ask seller form to have a hope of a response. Reel Clothes seems the most knowledgeable and honest on issues of backup versus screen used versus outfits from cut scenes. Most dealers just don't worry about those sorts of things at all.

I've dealt with Premiere Props on a few items. One item I bought was $150.00, three other sets of the same outfit sold for $200-$230. When I received the items, two out of the three items were stunt used. I complained by letter and they refunded me 50%. Fair enough.

The other transactions were as described, no real problems. It may depend on who you deal with at Premiere Props as well.

I assume the vendors are given preview DVD copies of the films to verify to outfits and props.

I understand mistakes can be made. They are given random boxes of stuff to go through and have to match them up as best as they can.

I ordered one outfit which was labelled "Phase One" and it was mismatched with some "Phase Two" items. The photo in the ad was exactly what I received but it was still mismatched.

When the company is dealing in huge volumes, it can happen quite easily.
Mrmovieprop
Orangerunner I agree its very easy for them to make mistakes unintentionally.
Its even tougher for collectors because often studio resellers like Premiere Props sell things from movies not on DVD yet, so most won't have good screen captures of things for comparison while the auctions are going on.

I had some issues with premiere over cost of shipping, delay in shipping & item's not as pictured.

So far screen used have always been very good.
Mrmovieprop
Premiere props does charge high shipping but they tell you the shipping cost upfront usually in auction descriptions.
In auction descriptions it says can take two or three weeks also I believe.

I appreciate those comment's but aside from the shipping which I agree, was made clear at the start of the Auction, albiet costly for the service received, my experience went outside of what was advertized with regard to delivery time's & item's as pictured.

On a positive note, Movie Bits have always been very good.
